Downhill Skiing

Downhill skiing is very similar to Alpine skiing, with the main difference being downhill skiing is more for beginners and those who ski for a hobby while Alpine skiing is more challenging and has a great deal of competition associated with it. Skis for downhill skiing are slightly longer than those used in Alpine skiing.

Downhill skiing is often a fast pace type of skiing, with the speed being a thrill. To gain the fastest speeds, the individual tucks the body. It is important to keep your knees bent to help you maintain your balance. The rest of the body should be centered over the pelvis. Stretching before you engage in downhill skiing will help your body prepare and avoid injuries such as falls and twisted knees or ankles.

Learning the proper techniques for downhill skiing is important, but it can be challenging. It takes lots of practice. If you are new to downhill skiing you might benefit from a course offered at most ski resorts. They can watch your form and give you pointers for improvement. Focus on skiing correctly rather than on speed until you have the basics under control. Make sure you wear the proper clothing and use quality equipment for downhill skiing. You can rent it from the ski resort or purchase your own.

Crashes at high speeds are a common risk of downhill skiing. Make sure you watch for other skiers and stay on the slopes you can master. Losing control while downhill skiing is dangerous to yourself and to the other skiers on the slope. Bruising and broken bones can happen to off you rush down a hill too fast and loose control. You may find yourself flipping end over end the rest of the way down.

Downhill skiing is thrilling and fast paced. Those who partake in this adventure love the excitement of the challenging slopes and the ability to go very fast. It takes patience and time to learn the technique but the more you practice the better you will get. Once you get the technique correct you can challenge yourself to more difficult slopes and faster speeds.
